V-Day report

Had a great V-Day. Leslie and I exchanged some candy on Friday--she gave me some Every Burger (a Japanese biscuit-and-chocolate candy shaped like cheeseburgers), and I gave her a card and the Russel Stover's chocolate with nuts collection that she wanted.

Saturday, I basically woke Leslie up with tiramisu that I'd made Friday night while she was over taking care of Minerva for Ben and Kathy. I think it came out pretty good, though the Bacardi 151 is too strong for it, at least at the recommended volume. If I make it again, maybe I'll try a little bit of amoretto.

Then I had to take the car in for a scheduled brake job at 10AM. To my surprise, they offered me a rental, so I drove back home after mailing Leslie's V-Day cards.

Back at home, I got to give Leslie the rest of the chocolate that I'd gotten at Dittmer's (a local store that sells German candy), which included two Kinder Eggs (technically gotten at a Russian store, actually), a Ritter Sport (available in many places, of course) and something else with a name I can't remember (but the chocolates are heart-shaped, so I just had to get it). She gave me a cute card too.

We ate lunch and watched an episode of Poirot, and decided to all go fetch the car later. While we were getting ready to call, Ben called with news from Katsucon: by some bizarre chance, our anime music video won three awards (best comedy, best attendee's choice, and one of the judge's choice awards). I was a little floored; I guess the demand will be high to put that thing on the net.

Then we fetched the car and took a walk through the trail that is conveniently next to IMPAC. That was quite enjoyable, and Cade had a good time until his endurance flagged (of course, we were the ones expending actual energy). We went back, gave him a diaper change (yay conveniently accessible, clean work bathroom), and went to Passage to India to eat. We beat the dinner rush, which is good since we had no reservation, and had an excellent dinner before driving to take care of Minerva.

We were listening to KQED when we arrived, and ended up spending another fifteen minutes stopped outside their apartment listening to a reading of a short story (Touré's "Solomon's Big Day: A Children's Story," read by Daniel Alexander Jones). Good story, I guess we need the book for Cade.

What else? We watched disc 5 of Noir and sporadically petted Minerva, who meowed loudly and ran around quite a bit. She's missed her litter box twice that I could tell, and I'm sure she'll be happy to see Ben and Kathy again.

In Cade news, our little boy is trying harder to sit forward, and liking being on his back less and less. Also, while we had him watching PBS for awhile yesterday, there was a "Wow!" on TV, followed by a very similar sound from Cade. We're pretty sure he had a successful attempt to mimic the TV.

I always get Chibi Kinder Suprise Eggs from the local Russian store, all those toys that come with them are crappy for some reason, even thought I use old technic of my sister's: Shake them and pick the one that is the most haviest...the one I got Chibi for Valentine had some insane train, it had like 10,000 parts to it! But Chibi was able to put it together...heh...
